Online BusinessLetters: Pricey power
This refers to “Energy savings can wipe out shortages” (January 8). An integrated approach for energy savings is the need of the hour. Despite efforts by the various organisations like Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEA) and Petroleum Conservation & Research Association, nothing substantial has been achieved.
- "Energy savings can wipe out shortages" - Mileage Rating plan irks auto industry - Power move: haryana SMEs to explore energy-saving options - CO2 emission by Indian power plants increases - 35-member Indian delegation for Copenhagen climate talks - India to invest Rs 74,000 cr in CO2 emission cutbacks
There is an initial cost involved in all energy-saving programmes and industries are not always keen to incur that. Therefore, a combination of tax incentives and penal action is required to motivate industries to implement energy-saving programmes. Organisations like BEA and Bureau of Indian Standards should come out with facts about such equipment for the information of domestic power consumers.
